Pleasantville

November 9, 2009

Firstly, my sincere apologies for being a pretty rubbish blogger the last couple of weeks.  With all this holiday prepping and trying to squeeze as much time in with my sweetheart before I jet off on Saturday I have had little blogging inspiration.

Anyway….. I wanted to share a few images from one of my all time favourite movies, Pleasantville.  I'm sure most of you have seen it and I just love the sweater sets and full skirts! Also  the hair and make-up is pretty good inspiration for an everyday vintage 50s look.  Not only are the clothes amazing but the story is just lovely too and I love the integration of colour into the film as the story progresses.

So exactly 2 weeks tomorrow I am jetting off to Disney World, Florida!!! What plane essentials should I pack? Oh mon deux!! Clothes wise I am thinking cute little shirts tied at the waist with shorts and Cath Kidston Headscarves.  Obviously I have my Esther Williams Swimsuit!!(very excited about that!)  So basically any help and advice would be much appreciated lovely people!!  m I going to look ridiculous in all my 1950s inspired glory??

Kate Kanzier Shoes

October 20, 2009

This shop was mentioned in Vogue this month and I am rather impressed and how retro-brogue fantastic some of the shoes are (yes I am just making words up)!  Think they will be just lovely with high waisted trousers or cute little dresses.  However I advise you to order online and not go to the shop on Leather Lane, London. I dragged the sweetheart there yesterday and the staff were pretty rude and unhelpful! You know those shops where you just feel really uncomfortable and unwelcome, well thats what I felt like.  So much so that I just tried on a shoe from display to check it was the right size so that I could then order it online from the safety of my own room, far away from nasty sales assistants. God bless the internet!

Esther Williams-Perfect Swimwear

October 10, 2009

Oh Mon Deux…..where does a gal start!  You see I am off on holiday in November.  To Walt Disney World, I know not very vintage chic of me however I think it is my father clutching onto the fact that my brother and I are still children (We are 19 and 22) so we will indulge him.  Plus he is paying for it and I am secretly a Disney fanatic, I know very uncool!  Anyway I digress…..so seeing as I am going to be jetting over to Florida I figured I would be need swimming attire.  This in itself is a personal nightmare for me, almost as nightmarish as buying bras!  You see I have an ample bust and a rather small waist in comparison.  I can hear you all now screaming "what is this gal complaining about??"! Do not get me wrong I am in nooo way complaining!! I am rather fond of my hourglass physique and have learnt to accommodate it well (thank god for the 40's and 50's eh!)  But when it comes to things like swimwear it can be a large dosing of hell trying to find something that fits correctly without squishing my chest flat or letting them have a mind of their own (sometimes I swear they do!).

So after much searching for retro inspired swimwear I come across Esther William, obviously inspired by the movie star herself, and boy am I happy I did.  I was not happy at spending £75 (including postage from USA) at first but I am so happy I did! I ordered the classic swimsuit sheath in black with white polka dots, the measurements for the size 12 where exactly the same as my own measurements so I took the risk and just prayed it would fit. ….and it did.  Like a DREAM! I cannot recommend these swimsuits enough!  The quality is excellent, the fit just perfect and the cut is very 1950s and very flattering! I am so happy-hence the very long drivel I am subjecting you too! Sorry.  But when you next need swimwear buy it from here!!  Oh and also the lady Laureen who I e-mailed with lots of questions was lovely and so helpful so big thumbs up to her!

Hope your all having a lovely weekend!

Hankies Pankies!

September 29, 2009

I am in love with these Cath Kidston Hankies.  I brought the red polka dot one last week and they are the perfect size to use as a neat headscarf (I have lately taken to pin curling my hair and tying a headscarf around my head).  Although now I think I want all of them! Especially the cowboy print one!!  Buy them here!

Vintage Goodwood

September 3, 2009

Goodwood vintage

Thanks to the lovely ladies at Queens Of Vintage I've just found out about this new vintage festival held at Goodwood race grounds.  I went to the Goodwood Revival last year which is all 50's themed and celebrates vintage motor racing and it was amazing! Everything is themed to the last detail, the police walking around are in vintage uniforms, there are vintage stalls galore and most people dress up which makes it all the more fun!  The racing part was the only bit that didn't interest me, so it looks like this new festival will be perfect! Find out more here!!  I'm reserving tickets for my sweetheart and I ASAP! xxx

Jelly Shoes!

September 2, 2009

I have been looking for jelly shoes for a very long time!! Now I don't mean modern gladiator style ones that they sell in Office or the likes of, I mean PROPER jelly shoes.  Ones that you use to run around in on the beach when you were little.  I don't know why I've wanted them so badly, maybe a wee bit of nostalgia, or maybe just because I remember them being damn cool Summer shoes!! Anyways I have hunted in a many seaside town for them and they never had adult sizes.  Also the arrival of Crocs (awful, awful things) seems to have diminished the original jelly shoe population even more.  Call me stupid but I never really thought to look on-line (I know crazy!), however the other night I did and hey presto jelly shoes I found and in an array of colours! Pink, clear, black, silver glittery and yellow.  So I have hastily ordered myself a black pair as I thought the silver glittery might just be a tad too childish and border from nostalgic to just plain creepy!  I am now hoping that the sun will come back for just a little longer so I at least get to wear them!!
